Pearland Oilers and High School Playoffs Football

This weekend I'm in Dallas, Texas for the UIL State Championship Class 5A Division 1. The two schools competing in this game are the Pearland Oilers and Euless Trinity. Trinity is the defending state champion and they will also be playing in their backyard. However, I do expect a huge Oilers following at the game to cheer and support the Oilers.

I arrived yesterday morning at the hotel and have noticed how the parking lot is filling up. Many people following their school in the playoffs. As I went for breakfast this morning it was nice to see a SUV parked next to mine with window painting supporting the Oilers and Coach Norman. Needless to say, I'm very excited about the game tonight. This weekend is the Super Bowl of High School football.

Pearland Oilers will be competing against Euless Trinity. Thrinity is the defending Class 5A Division1 State Champions and presently ranked #1 in the USA. However, they can be beat! I'm not bias because I'm the Oilers team photographer, but any team is capable of being beat. The playoffs are totally different than the regular season. During the regular season Trinity's average margin of victory was 35 points, during the playoffs it has been lest than 7. Pearland averages 45 points per game and has won every playoff game, except the Katy game, by a margin of at least 28 points. But, it doesn't matter by how many you win by, as long as you have one more point than the opponent.

I expect a great game tonight with Pearland winning. The Oilers are too balanced of a team. The Trinity Trojans have a weak pass defense and don't play balanced teams very well. Regardless of which school wins, the coaches, players, fans and schools have to be proud of themselves. This is quite an accomplishment to be playing in the State Championship.
